Two ingredients in dips you wanna be aware

An avocado dip may not be a “really avocado“ dip.

Have you always wondered if there is any avocado in avocado dips? The answer could be shocking. Check out this above dip product named as “avocado dip“. Ironically, it does have avocado, but only 11%. All the rest 80% is actual cream cheese! This is what most of the dip products look like at the moment.

If you are looking for a healthy dip, let me show you two tricks to avoid all of the marketing fraud. All you need to do is avoid two ingredients: 1. cream cheese , 2 vegetable oil. Have a look at the dip section next time when you are in the supermarket. You will be surprised that more than 80% of the dips have these two ingredients. what's wrong with them? first, cream cheese is very high in saturated fat and calories; second, vegetable oil is very high in calories, quite refined which is prone to inflammation.

This product shows what a healthy dip should look like!

Let me show you what a healthy dip should look like. I went to ALdi Australia a few days ago and found a yummy dip - Fresh Fodder Babaganoush. Fresh Fodder Babaganoush has none of the above two ingredients and is quite unique in dips family. Instead of these two ingredients, it uses white bean paste to thicken it. What a brilliant idea, love it! Along with white beans, it also has plenty of eggplant and tahini. All ingredients are natural and healthy, full of nutrients.

The white bean paste is not only low in fat and calories, but also high in prebiotics fibre and protein! All of my family enjoy the taste. very creamy. You can use it for dips with veg sticks, or alternative for salad, or in your lunch wraps! I have put the nutritional information and ingredient list for your reference. It is also very low in salt but quite satisfying.

Very clean and healthy ingredient with low-moderate amount of calories per 100g

Nutrition Comparsion

Per 100g Fresh Fodder Babaganoush Average other dips
Protein 5.8g this varies
Fat 9.5g much higher
Carbohydrates 8.3g higher
Sugar 2.6g it varies
Sodium 140mg much higher
Calories 630kj much higher

The catch:

I am not sure if this is a special buy in Aldi which will only be around for a short while. Currently available only in Aldi by the time I wrote this article July 2024. Who knows how long it will last. I am hoping as long as the brand exists!
